Duration: 13 days.
Day 1. Ulaan Baatar
International arrivals are met in Ulaan Baatar and
transferred to the hotel for a welcome dinner and 3 night stay. Free time for
exploring the capital city of Mongolia.
Day 2. Naadam Festival
Full day at Ulaan Baatar's Naadam Festival.
Today activities include the Opening Ceremony, archery, wrestling and the horseback
riding.
Day 3. Naadam Festival
A half day at the Naadam Festival, including the Closing Ceremony. City tour
with the Gandan Monastery and the National
Museum.
Day 4. Ulaan Baatar
A day to enjoy the magnificent alpine scenery of Terelj with opportunities
for hiking and horse riding in the 300 000 hectare Gorkhi-Terelj National Park.
Alternatively, a free day in Ulaan Baatar with opportunity for cashmere
shopping. Evening departure of our Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express.
Day 5. Ulan Ude
Morning getting settled in on board, enjoying the comfort, space and service
found on the exclusive Trans-Siberian Express. Crossing the boarder into Russia
we arrive in Ulan Ude, capital of the Buryat Republic.
Our city tour includes a visit to the colorful Buddhist Temple
at nearby Ivolginsk and a trip to the Village of Old
Believers.
Day 6. Lake Baikal
A spectacular part of the journey, today is spent winding our way through
tunnels and along cliffs faces on the Port Baikal branch on the shoreline of the world's largest freshwater lake, Lake Baikal.
We stop en route for a barbeque lunch (up to the wheather) and then board
a hydrofoil which takes us across the lake to the village
of Listvyanka. Our tour of this lakeside village, nestled into the
surrounding foothills, includes the Limnological
Museum (Baikal Museum).
Day 7. Irkutsk
Morning arrival in Irkutsk, known as the “Paris of
Siberia”. We spend a day here visiting the major sights and museums, seeing
the classic Siberian wooden architecture. Opportunity to have free time in the afternoon to explore the local market.
Day 8. On board
You have a full day on the train to enjoy the relaxed pace of life on our 'hotel
on wheels'. We go to the West through the beautiful landscape of the Sayan
Mountains.
Day 9. Novosibirsk
A stopover in Novosibirsk where we visit the Opera House, Lenin
Square and River Ob, which flows 3,500 miles from its source to the Arctic.
Day 10. Yekaterinburg
Yekaterinburg is the last city in Asia and capital
of the Urals. Our tour includes the Home of the Romanov's execution site
and the Urals Mineralogical Museum. Shortly after departure we cross the Europe/
Asia divide.
Day 11. Kazan
We spend the day in Kazan, the beautiful capital of Tatarstan on the Volga River.
Day 12. Moscow
Morning arrival in Moscow. Full day tour including Red Square and the
Kremlin. We have our final farewell dinner
and stay overnight at a 5-star hotel.
Day 13. Moscow
After sumptuous breakfast at the hotel, free time in the rapidly-changing
Russian capital brings our tour to an end. Airport transfers provided to connect
with afternoon flights departures.
Included: accommodation on board the train; hotel accommodation as per
itinerary; all meals starting with dinner on the first day, arrival/ departure
transfers, all guided off train programmes; services of experienced tour
leaders; complimentary tea, coffee, mineral water 24 hours a day; a doctor. The
tour language is English. French, German, Spanish, Italian and Japanese speaking
guides are available on request and at a supplement.
