Ivolginsky Datsan
Ivolginsk valley is located in a beautiful land. Datsan is located in a
picturesque place Ivolga, at the foot of a hill, in a silent place.
Ivolginsky datsan is a center of Buddhism in Russia. It was opened in 1946
and it was the only one spiritual center in the USSR. It's a big complex which
consists of the main temple, some small temples, library, philisophical faculty,
hotel, museum.
Buddhist University was open in 1991, about 100 students, so called huvaracks, from different regions of Russia study Buddhist philosophy
and principles of tantrism here.
It’s a place where the body Buddhist monk, Pandito Hambo Lama, is kept. He was buried 80 years ago and has been found without traces of decomposition. The body remains in the temple and its phenomenon involves a plenty of believers, scientists and tourists.

There is an archeological monument, Settlement of Huns, built in II-I centuries B.C. As you know, the Huns were a conglomerate of tribes made the first state unity in the Central Asia and reigning for centuries long. Some settlements and huge shrines are left after them. One of the fortified outposts built on the north border of Huns State is Nizhne-Ivolginskoye settlement.
