The museum houses more than 40 000 archeological, historical and ethnographic objects. 10 permanent galleries present history and culture of Mongolia from the Stone Age to the present day. You'll see the collection of traditional costumes, hats and jewelry of Mongolian Ethnic Groups. Furnished ger (yurt), articles of nomadic life, domestic implements, saddles and musical instruments, carpet and silk items of the Hun period and leather boots of a Mongolian soldier of that time.
There are some Buddhist items in the museum, including the controversial Ganlin Horn, made from bones of human thigh, and used by head monks to call and exorcise evil spirits.
If you are interested in Mongol Horde you are welcome to have a look at real examples of 12th century Mongol armour, and correspondence between Pope Innocent IV and Guytik Khaan. Written in Latin and Persian and dated November 13, 1246, it bears the Khaan's seal.
