Stanley used to be a small fishing village but today it’s bustling with throngs of people. It’s a must-go place with its restaurants, pubs and one of the famous open-air markets of Hong Kong. But if you are interested in sightseeing and architecture you’ll find what to see and visit here. 

If you are looking for bargains, silk garments, sportswear, art, traditional Chinese costumes, souvenirs, ornaments or a host of fantastic craft J Stanley Market located just up the road from the harbor will be outstanding place to visit! It’s the highlight of Stanley. People say that strolling in this street an bargaining with the shrewd venders is something most travelers find amusing to try. 

At the western end of the market street is the Tin Hau Temple (Temple of the Queen of Heaven) built in 1767. It’s one of the oldest temples in Hon Kong. During the First World War villagers got an asylum in this temple. Since then every year , on the 23rd of March, according the lunar calendar, on the birthday of Tin Hau, people come here to worship. 

Murray House, the oldest example of Western architecture, Old Stanley Police Station, one of the oldest surviving police stations of Hong Kong, Old Stanley Fort and a cluster of historic military sites are worth seeing and visiting.
