ABOUT BEIJING
Beijing is a capital of the People’s Republic of China. It consists of 18 districts and counties with population of 11 million. According to the fossils found on the place where the modern Beijing stands now primitive men, so called Sinanthropus Pekinensis or Peking Man, lived here 700 000 years ago.
The city itself was established in 1045 BC, time of the first colonies of a fortress kind. Its name was Jin and princes of Jin and Yuan dynasties lived here. In 221 BC Jinshihuan united all principalities on the territory of China into one and indivisible empire. From that time till 937 of our century Beijing became important city and administrative center of Northern China. So this city has been a capital for Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties for more than 800 years. On the first of October in 1949 the People’s Republic of China was proclaimed and Beijing became its capital.
Beijing is very popular for its many places of interest. You’ll have an opportunity to see ancient and modern buildings, royal parks and gardens, monasteries and temples.
