Stepan Petrovich Krasheninnikov
Stepan Petrovich Krasheninnikov (1711-55), Russian scientist, Academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. In 1737-1741 he studied the Kamchatka Peninsula and wrote the major scholarly work, A Description of the Land of Kamchatka (1751), the first work on Kamchatka's geography, with a description of the language, daily life and history of its indigenous peoples.
